The Warwick Economics Summit (WES) is a high-caliber, all-student-run academic conference, organised by the University of Warwick. In the past years, it hosted a range of influential and prominent speakers from politics, the corporate sector, research, media, and NGOs. Speakers participating included, amongst others, nobel laureates John Nash, George Akerlof, and Finn Kydland; (thought) leaders such as John B. Taylor, Mervyin King (former Bank of England governor), Mario Monti, the president of Iceland, Peter Wuffli (ex-CEO UBS), Andrea Sironi (Chairman of Italy’s stock exchange), the Chief Editor of the Economist or Maurice Obstfeld (former chief economist of the IMF).
This year, WES takes place on 05.02.-07.02.21 over 3 days (instead of in Coventry) and in virtual form. Participation is completely for free. This is a great opportunity for everyone interested in the global economic landscape, challenges in international relations, and the most pressing social issues. During the last years, talks and panels also covered topics related to data science and big data.
Participating delegations range from the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Stanford, UCLA, Bocconi, to students from Hong Kong and Australia, so WES is truly a global conference. We will be able to put together a delegation of 10 people from the University of St. Gallen.
